TPV/EPDM — Waterparks
PlaySoft TPV/EPDM is an anti-slip, UV stable and self draining water park application. PlaySoft TPV/EPDM rejuvenates existing concrete and is a cost effective alternative and affordable solution to coloured concrete. Designed for splash pads that drain water off the rubber. Materials are not designed for submersion.

Specifications
PART 1 • General
This specification covers the performance requirements, submittals, materials, preparation, installation and guarantee of PlaySoft poured-in-place safety surfacing.
Submittals
1.4 The following shall be submitted:
1.4.1 Toxicology Testing Report performed by a Certified Canadian Laboratory.
1.4.2 Manufacturers description of product, installation methods and maintenance instructions.
1.4.3 Detailed shop drawings of safety surfacing edging details and material thickness.
1.4.4 Color chart of available colors.
1.4.5 MSDS sheets for materials used to construct the same.
1.4.6 Test results confirming product has been tested and in compliance with ASTM F-1292 and CAN/CSA Z614-14.
1.4.7 Statement from the Manufacturer that the system to be installed shall only be performed by authorized and trained personnel.
1.4.8 Statement from Manufacturer that the binders used in the system has been specifically designed for water play surfacing.
1.4.9 A Certificate of Insurance for general and liability of no less than $5,000,000.00.
1.4.10 Sample of the surface system minimum size being 3″ x 3″.
PART 2 • Materials
2.1 PlaySoft TPV/EPDM shall meet the following gradations granulated rubber: 1 – 3.5mm or 1-4mm depending on desired surface texture.
2.2 PlaySoft TPV/EPDM rubber shall meet ASTM D 412 for tensile strength and elongation with a shore harness of 50 – 70, shall be peroxide cured with an TPV/EPDM content of 26%.
2.3 Polyurethane binders shall be specially formulated for water park surfacing, shall contain no TDI, filler minerals such as plasticizers, catalysts, extenders or heavy metals. Weight of polyurethane shall be no less than 8.5 lbs./gal (1.02 Kg/l).
2.4.1 Binder: An elastic polyurethane pre-polymer with minimal odour, excellent weathering and binding characteristics. The use of UTS- 106.01 Urethane is specific to and required for this project. Supplier must receive written authorization prior to installing the product which verifies use supply of urethane specified for this project.
2.5 Standard Binder (UTS 136.01) will amber and change the appearance of the finished rubber, usually more noticeable when mixed with lighter colours. Aliphatic binder (UTS 151.01) is recommended for non-yellowing.
2.5 Typically, MDI binders are aromatic however a higher U.V. resistant aliphatic binder is available at additional cost.
2.6 UTS Binders are purchased for both the base and top rubber from North America Suppliers. Proof of Purchase/Origin of materials upon request.
PART 3 • Water Park Surfacing
Base Preparation
3.1 In order to ensure the consistent performance of the surfacing, bases must be constructed to ensure a firm, stable and draining foundation for the surface.
Surface Installation
3.4 After the Concrete has been cleaned. A nap roller shall be used to apply an even coating of diluted binder to adhere the TPV/EPDM layer. Edges will be tack coated with a non diluted urethane.
3.5 Minimum 30 day cure for concrete before rubber is applied.
3.5.1 Applied at 10mm thickness.
3.5.2 Tack coat entire area with urethane including edge of concrete.
3.5.3 Concrete shall cure for thirty (30) days prior to application of rubber.
3.6 Surface layer of PlaySoft TPV/EPDM rubber shall be thoroughly mixed on site to ensure 100% coverage of all particles and poured in place by means of rakes and screed bars and compacted to required density by use of hand trowels and rollers.
3.7 PlaySoft TPV/EPDM rubber.
Weather Conditions
3.9.1 Temperatures: minimum 10°C during the day and evening hours throughout installation period for the rubber surfacing to be installed. Note: With cooler temperatures rubber finish will be noticeably more rough than a typical in-season installation.
3.9.2 UTS Binder is moisture cured with the presence of water. Concrete cannot have any puddling or standing water when applying rubber.
3.9.3 When applying multi-colour rubber patterns, the bonding edges must be dry or foaming will occur. This includes bonding to all perimeter materials such as brick, concrete, wood. etc.
3.9.4 Rubber should be protected at all times against frost during the curing process to prevent freezing of the uncured binder which can cause premature wear and or failure of the performance of the rubber.
3.9.5 October 30 will be the cut off date for starting new installations, unless temperatures are favourable. All installations after this date are subject to a sign off on our Weather & Temperature document.
3.9.6 If temperatures are below 10° tenting and heating is permissible. Tent must be constructed in such a way to withstand weather conditions of fall and or winter weather.
Cleanup
3.10 Remove any spills or residue that may make contact with structure or surrounding curbs or sidewalks. On completion of work and the 24 hr. cure time, remove all protection provided for the same.
